Recently I was able to attend a Lolita meetup here in Seoul after meeting some very kind Korean Lolitas through the EGL livejournal! They have these meetups a little randomly, so unless you are a lurker of the Korean Lolita Naver cafe, they are easy to miss!
♥ ♥ ♥
If you are scratching your head wondering what exactly Lolita is, you can check out this site HERE for a little bit of info, basically it is a fashion style from Japan that revolves mainly around traditional fancy dresses and youthful elements. Poofy skirts, loads of lace, tons of bows, bloomers etc are often the norm~
Dress: Baby the Stars Shine Bright | Sweater: Metamorphose | Necklace + Socks: Angelic Pretty (Milky Fawn)
I like all kinds of fashion, and this is one of those circles that I have always been fond of even though I do not consider myself a lolita ^^ just a big fan who likes to buy cute things which cross over to brands from this style sometimes! I actually had several pieces I was able to match together for this event that I had purchased randomly over the last year or two! Lucky!
I love Angelic Pretty necklaces so much! The socks are actually by “Secret shop” but match perfectly!
It also gave me a chance to use the beautiful cake ring my dear friend Cicely Margo sent me! I LOVE her!!
Betsey Johnson has this ring *_* why you so awesome Cicely?
This meetup took place at 티앙팡 Tea Angpang in Edae, and was Sailor themed~ but any cord was allowed.
티앙팡 Tea Angpang was SUPER cute, I am so glad I know about this place now! It actually has become one of my fave tea rooms
(You can see my feature on the location ♥HERE♥)
Everyone chatted and drank tea, nibbled on freshly baked cookies, and milk pudding in the shapes of hearts~ it was so lovely! The price to attend the party was 10,000 won I believe~ which got you drinks, snacks, and a goodie bag! It was extremely reasonable!!
Fruit tea with a rose ice cube!
티앙팡 is apparently known for having yummy milk pudding with red bean topping~ it was very creamy and smooth, but the cheesecake was also extremely delicious. Everything came out on lovely plates of course ♥
Korea overall had several hundred Lolita girls in the community, so everyone seems to know each other very well and it had a nice close-knit feeling. At this event I believe 25-30 Lolita attended~ most from around Seoul, but some also came from outside the city!
Everyone was very sweet and friendly ~ So many unique cords too! Hardly anyone was head to toe one set or brand which I think makes it a lot more interesting VS buying the whole outfit right off the store shelf. You could really see different styles and self expression come through in the girls outfits ♥
At this event I was actually not the only foreigner! I got to meet Rachel who is a teacher here from the USA, and Karmen who was vacationing from Singapore! It was really nice to chat with girls in English again~ it has been a while haha!
I also got to meet Eura who was amazingly sweet + the very talented Sora who actually draws a lot of the lolita textile art (Lief)
Cutest feet in Korea that day ♥
Karmen’s beautiful hair accessories!
I got to meet Haenuli at last! I had been talking to her on facebook for a few weeks prior because I wanted to interview her for the blog~ she is so much fun and her English is great ^^ Expect a brand feature on her and the other designers soon ♥
So many cute outfits~ Lots of pretty straw hats for this meet up ♥
The lolita in the blue had my favorite outfit out of the whole meetup, it was so pretty, fun, and seemed so wearable on a regular basis! She also had the Vivienne Westwood jelly wing shoes on with it~ I wish I had snapped a full body shot of the whole thing!
Korean Lolita brands Haenuli and Baroque had beautiful sailor dresses for pre-order!!
Both of these brands sell online to the English-speaking Lolita community and both designers actually speak wonderful English if you are interested in placing orders. The brand Dear Margret was also there, she had lots of cute goodies to sell and her own super cute sailor dress ♥ !!
Everyone crowds the front to view the new dress designs including the custom-made fabric from both brands
In the front of the room several Korean Lolita brands set up tables to showcase new designs they were making for the season so people could see samples in person and place pre-orders on items. The quality of the dresses was so beautiful for the prices, and if you attend the events you could pre-order them for slightly less~ so I can see the appeal of attending the events if you like to buy dresses from local designers!
At the end of the party each of the 3 designers had a special prize to give out~ so a massive game of Rock, Paper, Scissors was held!
Rachel won an adorable Dear Margret sailor hat!!!
She said she plays this game with her students a lot so now she is a pro! lol
After the party was over everyone went outside to take photos together.
Lovely Miss Mana from Baroque tries to organize everyone♥ Ahhh I love her sailor dress so much!
I loved both of these outfits a lot~ look at the poodle bag+ pretty flowers in the other girls straw bonnet!
I gave a few of my Space Girl limited prints to the event organizers to thank them for inviting me ♥ xoxox
So that was my very first Lolita meetup AND Korean Lolita meetup! I really can’t wait for the next one in a few months because it was such a wonderful experience and I got to make some beautiful new friends ♥

PS. big thanks to Rachel and anyone else who uploaded photos online from the event! At the time of this party I did not have my proper camera, so since the room was dim I could not take any of my own photos *_*

Wow, everyone looks so super lovely! ♥ The way you describe the community there makes me think of our lolita community in the U.K., we’re pretty close-knit too, but I think there may be even less of us! Your coord is really cute by the way, and especially so for someone who doesn’t wear lolita usually.
By the way, if you ever find yourself in London you’d be welcome to come along to one of our meets, haha.
(also I’ve tried to send this comment a couple times and it keeps giving me an error, so I’m sorry if it gets duplicated!)
Aw thank you Amy! I hope I can go to London sometime, I have never been and I really want to go
man, doing cords is so tricky~ seeing all the pieces in everyone’s outfits made me want to go buy 1000 more things to add into my outfit alone haha! I have so much respect for the girls that can really mix up amazing outfits now.
I am so sorry about the comment posting issue, someone else said that yesterday~ do you know if it is something with the cute captcha thing I have at the bottom? I know a few people are not used to that, so I am wondering what is causing the bug so I can squash it!
You’re welcome! I hope you will! Maybe our little group of frillies can show you around, we know all the nicest places for afternoon tea. XD I know what you mean, it’s quite the same for me half the time and I’ve been wearing lolita for over 2 years now, haha! (also as we’re on the subject of lolita, just thought you might like to know; I use Miss Kika totes quite often with my coords!
)
Oh don’t worry about it! I don’t think it was the cute captcha, which really lives up to it’s name by the way, SO CUTE♥, but the comment went through when I deleted the URL I put in the website box, so I assumed it was something to do with that.
P.S. The thing with the captcha is that if you forget to do it the first time, it will refresh and give you a new cute captcha to do, but then it doesn’t work even if you pick the right one. Like it’s stuck on the first one or something? I usually have to refresh the page and rewrite my comment to get it to work.
It is super cute, but at least for me, the text one you had before was less frustrating. Esp b/c I tend to miss seeing the cute captcha sometimes since it’s under the “submit comment” button… even though I comment on your blog a lot and should know by now. Maybe it’s just me being spacey, but thought I’d let you know in case this helps!!
Ah crap, thank you for letting me know Kelsea! Yeah, the reason I switched it out was the old one was not blocking out the spammers as well~ so I found the cute one and gave it a try and it works about 80% better. I really need to find another text-based one that will block the crap out ok, but not be impossible to read ~_~ a few I tried are such a strain to even tell what letters and numbers they want, I get thats the point, but UGH ANNOYING!
Wow! > w < It looks like it was a super fun time! Now I can't wait for my community's next meetup!
Everyone's coords look so gorgeous!
I love this post!
Being active in the Lolita community when I was studying abroad help me make wonderful friends! We would go on adventures all the time. And now I really miss my friends!
Often it is only about the Japanese, but I like to see how lolita is different in different countries.
All the girls look very nice and natural! Sometimes I forget just how much photoshopping is done in magazines ect. and even blogs online. I love the girl in the blue blouse too! plus that sailor dress is to die for! <3 ^O^
I am not much of a fan of ice tea (even though I'm in the south), but that tea looks so yummy and fruity!!
And may I add that you look so cute! Got to love BtSSB and AP! I love it very much! I going to add this jsk to my ever growing list… oh… I just love how you coordinated it! <3
So glad you enjoyed the post! I agree, it was very interesting to see just what the tastes and community was like here~ it has its own unique flavor I think! The tea was honestly more like a fruit punch, I love sweet drinks so this was right up my alley for sure… especially considering how how it was outside! *_*
So glad you like what I managed to piece together! haha I was honestly shocked I had so many pieces in my closet, I kept digging and was happy with what I found lol! Of course, now that I have some occasions to actually wear the dresses I have been itching to buy more…. Pandora’s box has been opened lol
Thank you very much for sharing
You look adorable, the food looks yummy and the girls seem to be very nice
I can see you had a lot of fun ^^
I just wanted to say that I really love your blog ! I was never interested in Korea, but your blog really made me want to go there !
Thanks for having posted this blog entry in the egl comm ; without it I would have missed a really great blog !
There are beautiful lolitas in Korea ! And you should dress more often in lolita, caus you are really beautiful (well, while reading your other blog entries I realized you are always so beautiful !)
I haven’t finish to read all your blog entries yet, so I’ll continue ^__^
Thank you again ! I can’t wait to see more~
Wow that’s so cute ! I want to come in Korea ! And try a tea party >< ! Thanks to Haenuli, she shares your link's blog !
D
I love your coordi and your new ring !
I will follow your blog now !
Hanabi ( from France, and want to learn korean for lolita meeting in Korea *A*)
I LOVE this post! ^^ I have admired lolita for a long time and really want to try wearing it someday! But I’d be too nervous to try it alone! TT^TT
I’m so glad!! Do NOT be scared Missy ♥ I was for so long, but I feel so happy in pretty dresses so I am glad I participated~ do what makes you feel wonderful! I had that Baby the Stars Shine Bright dress in my closet for over a year because I was too chicken hehe. I think a lot of the Korean Lolita styles from the event are very inspiring for more modest people though, a few are just very pretty outfits and do not seem like they would draw an insane amount of attention aside from being a little different vs the norm!
Aww, thank you~~! I will have to try it some time when I get some appropriate pieces~! However, I’ll be moving to Daegu in November to teach English, so I think it will probably have to wait until next year sometime! TT^TT Maybe I will have to come join a Korean lolita meetup~! ^^ However, I am wavering so much between sweet lolita and classical/country lolita styles, so I’m having a difficult time trying to decide what to buy first! ^^;;
Oh, excellent lolita ensemble! I have to admit, even though I don’t wear wigs & I’m not a lolita, I totally stalk the “Gothic Lolita Wigs” facebook page… just to see the awesome coords they post! So pretty!
