Time for another expo at Coex Mall in Korea!  Coex has several expo halls and every weekend a new event comes in so I try to keep an eye out for the interesting ones because it is a nice thing to do on Sunday date sometimes ♥ This July they had an event called the “Handmade Fair” and after checking out the events facebook page I knew I wanted to attend because it was all sorts of crafty cuteness~ etsy style fun!

Lets go!!

The event had an assortment of Korean craft vendors selling cute jewelry, art, furniture, knitted toys, clothing, etc as well as some invited international fine artists painting murals, a few scattered fine art installations, and craft areas run by sponsors of the event.  It was a nice mix of things and was a lot of fun to explore~ Korean handmade crafts are usually extremely adorable and this expo did not disappoint!

One of the more popular installation pieces at the event~ visitors could play the instruments if they wanted

This artist made adorable custom portraits for weddings, birthdays, etc~ I LOVE the style!

My favorite rings~So cute!

Handmade ice cream scoop and waffle headphones!

One of the several Japanese artists they had invited to the event to paint large murals.

These are soaps in the shape of traditional Korean rice cake snacks! I saw a few people that make these online too, they seem to be popular gifts for holidays and are always very pretty colors. Really want to try making some of these myself *_*

This artist makes all of her own dolls, they are so stunning!  She often sells at the doll trade shows  like “Doll Free Market” that is held every few months as well, so she is easy to find if you are interested in her work.

They even had a vendor with amazing little clips and outfits for your dog!

one seller had the most amazing miniature displays~ I have had a thing for miniatures since I was little, so I snapped a bunch of photos!  A lot of these items are made with clay, wood, or paper~ amazing!

a miniature room of someone making a miniature room *__*

Tiny panty shop!!!

The detail in this one is amazing, they even made the little cheap black bags held up by a tie the street carts use.

Mini ice cream waffles~ ♥

If you want to attend future events at Coex or are just looking for something to do you can check out the exhibit listing in English on the official site ♥ HERE ♥ Each exhibit/expo/show/etc usually runs one weekend, Friday-Sunday and costs about 10,000won a person to get in. The event organizers facebook page “Hand Arty” is also HERE♥ online if you want to keep an eye out for future events by them.

♥ ♥ ♥

You can always buy coex expo tickets right outside the event hall, so no need to order in advance unless you want to! Since they have new shows coming in and out every week a lot of them are boring, so just keep an eye out on the listings online so you can catch a fun one!

What is your favorite thing from this expo? Have you been to any other cool events like this or at Coex mall before? Know a cute Korean craft brand? Share your comments below!

I LOVE the artists they brought in. I’d probably sit for hours looking at the work being done.

Also, I like the crochet stuff. Definitely Etsy finds! I’d buy them in a hot second if they were on there.

    • Elle:

I agree!! I wish more Koreans knew about etsy :( I try to ask them when it comes up~ but so many don’t even have proper websites, just Naver cafes which lock pretty much everyone out who is not Korean. I think the organizer of this event was a particular art Hagwon, so I am going to be keeping an eye out for any future shows they put together since the overall quality of work sold in this show was very high!! They have a weekly craft market in Hongdae I will be writing about soon as well, it is just a tiny little gathering in the park, but the work is always just as cute.

  • Oh my goodness, these things are so incredibly cute! I love the soft dolls in this photo best http://cuteinkorea.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/craftexpo27.jpg especially the stripy bears!

I wish we had events like these where I live, it looks so much fun. I just adore DIY stuff!

    • Elle:

omg yes! Those bears are so cute! That vendor had a booth just filled with pretty plush toys, it was so hard not to buy something! I saw from your blog you are Swedish ♥ I bet you guys would have amazing craft fairs if they got organized! *_*

  • Custom avatar Amy B.C.:

Gosh, your photos are so amazing! Did you only take pictures of the especially cute things, or is this just another example of popular Korean aesthetics? :)
The dolls with ceramic faces are my favourite I think, they’re just so beautiful! Also the miniatures because I’ve always had a fondness for them too ♥

    • Elle:

Thank you! Haha well I am acting as cute curator, so I did seek out the cutest things to feature~ but overall these reflect the usual cute ascetic here with handmade crafts I think! Once you are here and go to events, you start to see things looking a bit similar~ not that people copy per say, but Koreans have a unique flavor of “cute” for sure so I am learning to spot it better and better :D OMG those miniatures… I spent forever looking at that booth… Nara thought I was insane! XD

  • That expo looks like all sorts of cuteness!!

  • Custom avatar caz:

So much cuteness!! I love fairs like this but we don’t get anything as cute as that round by me :-(

  • Custom avatar Lisa:

How cute! Craft shows around here are always full of high end jewelry, handmade cards and tupperware. Never anything like this!

  • So much awesome! WOW. Those miniatures… at first glance I would not have known they were miniatures. Incredible detail! And the someone making a miniature in a miniature… it’s like Inception! Haha.

The colorful pentagon light, the ice cream scoop headphones, the murals… I can’t pick a favorite!

    • Elle:

She was selling some things so cheap too! Like mini designer handbags for $10… I was SO CLOSE to buying one to use on my doll or something hahaha

  • Hi! I love your blog by the way, I was in coex mall just last year and went there for shopping since it was the closest to our hotel in Gangnam. The handmade notebook covers are just so cute, and thanks for the event info that you posted, I will definitely keep that link handy in the future. Did you get anything?

    • Elle:

My pleasure, I am glad you enjoyed the post! If you ever come back, they do events almost every weekend and the hall is connected right to the actual mall. I actually did not end up buying anything!! We had just come back from a trip to Osaka, so I was on a shopping break hahaha. Nara bought two beautiful paintings from a student though, I need to add those to the post…hummm

  • ahhhhhh! I am so sad I missed this!! I love going to the Renegade Craft Fair in SF, which seems to be similar to this, but this looks way more awesome!

BTW – have you been to Platoon Kunsthalle in Nonhyeon-dong? They are having a “night flea market” on Saturday, Sept 1. My boyfriend and I are going to check it out! You might like it too. :)

    • Elle:

Ohhh I have not! I will have to check that out, I looooove flea markets!! Yes, it was a lot like Renegade~ Ah I miss SF.
Are you aware of the Sunday craft sales at the playground in Hongdae? I have not posted about it yet, but it is a nice little gathering to check out if you like fashionable crafts 3

  • Custom avatar Jenifer:

I didn’t know about the craft sales, but it sounds like something I’d love! Can you post or email me info? My email is jeniferduke@gmail.com. My boyfriend and I just made it to Seoul. We’re on the 6006 bus to Garosu-Gil now! Soooooo hot here!

    • Elle:

I’ll try and get it posted soon~ in the meantime if you just go to Hongdae around lunchtime on Sunday and ask where the playground is you will find it easy since it is around the main hongdae area (past the hello kitty cafe). The playground area is an actual playground with a large graffiti mural that people like to hang around and drink at on the weekend lol

  • Ah ok! Those directions are perfect! Thank you!!

  • Custom avatar Elizabeth:

  • Wow~ this is so awesome! I wish this was a regularly-occurring event~! TT^TT

  • Custom avatar Mree:

Wow, everything has such nice craftsmanship. It has been a while at this point, but do you happen to know any of the muralists’ names? I would love to look up a couple of them.

  • Custom avatar jessica:

  • Custom avatar W.Hou:
